Costume Requirements

by Larry John

When I was in my 20’s I had my own TV show. It was a kid’s show. All the actors on the show put on silly costumes to act out their roles. Costumes were very a crucial part of making the show funny. But when you think about it, we all wear costumes. Businessmen wear costumes. It would be hard to sell a big account if you went to the presentation in a t-shirt, shorts, and flip-flops. You are not going to impress your prospective client to invest millions of dollars in that outfit. If you want to sell the account you had better put on a suit, a crisp white shirt, a silk tie, and freshly polished black shoes. But the same outfit would look silly on a plumber or a cowboy. We all wear costumes so that we are believable. But a costume by any other name…is still a costume. And as long as we give power to what people wear…we will all continue to wear the required costumes. Think about it.
