Enforced Morality

by Larry John

To me, the issue of whether or not people should be allowed to marry who they want is a personal freedoms and liberties issue. This may be just another case of some people wanting to legislate “their” morality for all of us to live. People love to make everyone else believe the way they believe and if they can’t, they want to make their belief the LAW! I may believe that a man and a man or a woman and a woman shouldn’t get married based on my personal logical or even religious belief, but I hate messing around with the freedom of a person’s right to choose. Maybe the fact that that’s the way our “tradition” has always been isn’t reason enough. It used to be the tradition to have slaves. Solomon had many wives so based on that, should I? It is not my job or the job of government to legislate “my” morality on every individual who disagrees with my thinking. According to my political ideology, the role of government does NOT include telling me how I MUST believe! Think about it.
