Filling the Void by Larry John
Recently in Time Magazine there was an article about a preacher who struck it rich espousing a philosophy of a "Purpose-Driven Life". His concept is that Americans are finding themselves lavishly rich in possessions and the "stuff" of life, but oddly empty at their core. His suggestion is that the answer to fill that void is, of course, God and religion. I can't say that he is wrong, because I think he is right about his basic premise. The key to fulfillment in life is finding and living with a purpose. If that purpose is simply to breathe in and breathe out, great! If that purpose is to feed the entire world's hungry, great! If that purpose is to sit on the couch and see every episode of Star Trek 100 times while eating the world's largest bag of Cheeto's, great! However, once we find OUR meaning, many of us think that everyone should have the SAME meaning and want to convert the world. Why is that? Is it possible that there may be more than ONE meaning for life? Think about it.
