Funeral Talks by Larry John I was talking to a friend the other day and she told me about a funeral she and her 16 year old daughter attended. Like most funerals, the speakers gave glowing reports about what a great man the deceased was: he worked hard, loved his family, had a great sense of humor and the list went on and on. After listening to the speakers, my friend turned to her daughter and said, “I wonder how many of these people saying all of these wonderful things ever said them to him while he was alive? I really think it’s wrong that we don’t tell people how great they are while they are living.” The daughter thought for a minute and said “Well then, I’m going to start telling you right now all of the nice things about you that we are going to say at YOUR funeral.” Perhaps the daughter is right. We probably should start saying all the nice things right NOW that we would say at a funeral when the person we’re praising can’t hear us anymore. Think about it. |
