Kids in Retail

By Larry John

I spent a great deal of the weekend shopping. I went to several different stores. I went to the mall to buy some shoes. I went to a swimming pool supply store. I went to an electronic store to buy a DVD. I went to a computer store. And I went to a store to rent a movie. And in my shopping travels I noticed one thing that was common to all the stores. Eighteen-year-old kids ran all these stores. Where has all the older population gone? Don’t they work in retail anymore? Is the entire nation run by minimum waged children? If you turn 25 do you have to stop working in a retail store? Do you have to be 18 with no knowledge of product or service savvy to get a job in a retail store now-a-days? And don’t ask questions of any of these youngsters because the answer is always the same. “I don’t know.” Where have all the people gone who do know? Think about it.
