Meaningful Bliss? By Larry John
Why don’t more people like to think? It is pretty hard to make it through life without thinking. But why do so few of us wonder about or doubt our present thinking? When I am questioning my thinking, I may change my thinking or become more committed to my thinking. But examining “closely” what I believe to be true is a talent that must be developed, no differently than learning to play the piano. It takes practice. There is no doubt that “ignorance is bliss.” So if you want to be happy…be stupid, right? I don’t think so. Bliss is more a function of the heart, whereas meaningful happiness is more a function of the mind by experiencing life through observation and intelligent doubt. If you have never felt COLD, how do you know what HOT is? Is there a difference between the “bliss” of ignorance and the meaningful happiness of applied knowledge? I think so. What do you think? Think about it.
