Offensive Warnings by Larry John
I was watching our local TV news the other day when the anchor said “and now before we show you our next story… we want to warn you that some of these pictures you’re about to see may be too violent and offensive for some people.” Hmmm…so, if you know that you are about to see pictures that might be too violent and offensive for “some” people, do you put your hands over your eyes or change the channel? Heck no! Not with that “offensive warning”… now we want to watch even more and then have the opportunity to say, “Why did they show that? That’s offensive to me!” And yet, they warned you and you still looked. Not only looked, but watched. The funny thing is they knew you would…and that’s why they showed those offensive pictures. Human beings are so predictable. Tell us we probably shouldn’t do something…and we want to do it even more. Why is that? Think about it.
