Other People

by Larry John

Have you ever gone to a restaurant and just listened? I mean just sat there while waiting for your food and listened to the “second hand” conversations of other people as they talk, talk, talk, and talk. I love to “zero in” on conversations and listen and observe. It is a little like Voyeuristic listening. You can hear them, but they don’t know you are listening. People talk about everything from the weather to politics…but the most common conversations are conversations about “other” people.  People talk about “other” people who are not there. These conversations are very seldom complimentary about the person being discussed. Most of these conversations start with “I can’t believe what so and so did.” We love to talk about others don’t we? But most of the things we say about others, we would hate to have heard. Especially by the person we’re talking about.  Most humans love to pull themselves up… by pulling others down. I am sure you and I are not like that…. but those “other” people sure are. Just listen. Think about it.
