Rich Old Men

by Larry John

Why is that we have never elected a woman as the President of the United States? When will the nation be ready for a female President? Why haven’t we had an African American, Asian or Hispanic President? When will the nation be ready for them? The political spin doctors say that a woman and “so called” minorities have 20-25 years to wait before the nation is ready to elect them to the highest office in the land. But I don’t get it. Are we all talking the talk about equal rights and yet we can’t bring ourselves to really implement the ideal? When will we be ready? Are women and minorities less qualified to lead the nation? Or is the nation really as biased and steeped in bigotry as these professional political “movers and shakers” think? Why are we more confident in rich old men than we are in enthusiastic and knowledgeable women or men of varying ancestries? Shouldn’t we be electing the most knowledgeable and brightest among us? Is that a rhetorical question? Think about it.
