Two Pairs of Shoes by Larry John
When I was a kid I had two pairs of shoes; just two pairs. I had a pair of tennis shoes for school and play and I had a pair of dress shoes for church. That was it. Two pairs. And now I have over 20 pairs of shoes. I have flip flops, walking shoes, running shoes, riding boots, dress boots, work books, hiking shoes, black dress shoes, brown dress shoes, maroon dress shoes, loafers, lace ups, beach shoes, baseball shoes, high tops, clogs, slippers, garden shoes, and 4 or 5 kinds of other shoes that I don’t even have a name for. Why is it that when I was a kid two pairs of shoes was all I needed? The tennis shoes lasted one year. I would always get a new pair for each new school year. The dress shoes lasted until I grew out of them but still only two pair of shoes. I wonder… could I live with just two pairs of shoes again? Think about it. |
